In India, food industry has become one of the most demanding and profitable business industry. More and more food businesses are entering this industry due to various advantages related to increase in demand for good quality of food and services. Moreover, recent increase in online food delivery and culture of dinning out, visiting bars, lounges etc. have attract various entrepreneurs to start the food business.
However, such food business and industry is governed by an authority called Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) which is responsible for regulating and supervising food safety in India. FSSAI provides a unique 14 digit numeric license or a registration number which is printed on all the food packages proving the authenticity and quality of food products.
What is FSSAI Registration?
Any business owner or FBO (Food Business Operator) or entrepreneur who wish to start its business in the food industry which may relate to food manufacturing, food processing, packaging or distribution has to take a registration for FSSAI License as per the FSS Act, 2006.
FSSAI is the authority which is responsible for monitoring the businesses registered as per FSS Act, 2006. FSSAI Registration and FSSAI License are two different terms which are sometimes used interchangeably. But, there is a difference between both of them in terms of size and nature of the business.
